Stem Cell Therapeutics (SCT) is one of few public companies worldwide to focus exclusively
on the development of stem cell technologies and the only public company concentrating
on therapeutic stem cell development in Canada.
Founded on Dr. Sam Weiss’ seminal research from the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at
the University of Calgary, we possess a pipeline of attractive clinical stage assets
based on his work.
The significant leadership changes to the board and management that occurred in
2011 were designed to build upon our existing stem cell expertise. We have assembled
a team of experts with significant experience in the areas of drug development and
licensing. Building on Dr. Weiss’ work we will initially focus on leveraging the
stem cell research output from Ontario because of the commitment in that province
that is based on substantial provincial and national support. The new team plans
to expand our portfolio by accessing development stage technologies from major universities
and hospitals that are conducting leading-edge stem cell research, uniquely positioning
SCT as the preferred receptor company for stem cell technologies from Canada and
internationally.
As a stem cell technologies receptor company we act as a bridge to market for stem
cell research. We propose to license and acquire additional technologies based on
the original research of leading Canadian and international institutions, avoiding
the risk inherent in basic research, and will advance the discoveries of others
through the clinical and regulatory development process that converts research into
actual products for the treatment of patients to restore function, replace cells
and regenerate organs. We hold an exceptional position in the area of stem cell
development permitting us to build value within Stem Cell Therapeutics by applying
our expertise as recognized leaders in the biotechnology sector for the development
of stem cell therapies to expand and advance our pipeline.
“The name Stem Cell Therapeutics more accurately reflects the Company's interest
in developing therapies in a variety of medical areas beyond neurological diseases.
This name change also clarifies the organizational structure of the Company as the
consolidated entity encompasses all of the intellectual property and development
programs of both the former Neurogenesis Biotech Corp. and the recently acquired
SCT Inc.”
- Dr. Joseph Tucker, Former President and CEO of Stem Cell Therapeutics, 2004.
